Wind me up.

April 30th, 2010 by Jessie

I stumbled across this the other day online somewhere and it made me laugh.

It also reminded me of me as I have an odd preoccupation with teeny wind up toys.

It’s reminiscent of this gem from my original photo archives:

I like this one, too, taken by Jonathan McIntosh, in Boston in 2003.

Have a wonderful day!

Thank you, Tom Hanks.

For launching the baby corn into the minor celebrity it now enjoys. It’s a bizarre, controversial vegetable, and yet, watching you nibble it ever so delicately in your sparkly white coattails, you’ve enchanted a nation and won our hearts to the cause of the Baby Corn.

Here is my homage to the mini veggie (which I do not prefer to eat, coincidentally):

Delightfully corny, only smaller!

I think I’ll be sending a bushel of these guys to Maker Faire in San Mateo, CA next month. If you find yourself in the neighborhood swing by the Plushteam booth and pick one up!

Mad for it.

I am falling in love with Amanda Visell. I’ll be out trolling the internets for inspiration, when I come across something like this, and think, “Wow. That is some gorgeous design.”

Then, the next day I find something else and I think, “This is amazing!” and sure enough, it’s another piece by Amanda Visell. This happened over and over until I said, “Enough!” I am officially a fan.

If you live in LA, you can see her work now at the Natural History Museum.

She also does a lot of collaborative work with Michelle Valigura. Together they make The Girls Productions. And they are cool. I want to be friends with both of them.

So what do you say, ladies? Can we be friends? Call me!

Achingly Cute.

Yes! So my friend has a friend who no longer has a stomach.

It’s terribly unfortunate. She had to have it emergency amputated in Budapest. I kid you not! My friend decided that something soft and adorable like this would speak volumes in the place of a “Get well soon!” card. I think she’s on to something.

This may spur me down the road toward a line of amputated plush. Fingers? Toes? An appendix or two?

While I’m not the first plushmaker to delve into the realm on human anatomy, I think I am the first to recreate one from beyond the grave! This tummy has gone to a better place. Fly away, little amputated internal organ!

A Paunchy Haiku:

Your bellyaching

Is making me so sour.

Let’s cuddle it out!

Hello, Friends! Have no fear, I have been working.

Here’s another toothy pouch I’ve whipped up recently.

I’ve got a commissioned piece in the works now (that you’re sure to love!).

Don’t forget to head over the Plushteam site to vote for your favorite entry in the mythology challenge – tomorrow’s the last day!

You should also head over to take a gander at Super Punch – a great site that has recently featured Laocoon and his Serpents.
