Carotenoderma

I got to work this morning and looked at the calendar when I realized, “I missed Haiku Contest Day!” I’m outraged at myself. So sorry, all you plush and haiku lovers out there.

To make it up to you, a day late, here is this month’s spectacular and nutritious plush up for grabs in the PterodactylPants Haiku Contest!

carrot-1

It’s a Carrot.

I’ve been wanting to make a carrot for a while. I whipped this one up in no time, probably half an hour, in fact. This is significant when one considers my historical impatience with carrots. I had a garden when I was a kid and I could never wait long enough for a carrot to grow. I’d go out there as soon as the leafy green tops popped out of the soil, and pull one up to see if they were ready. It would be a pathetic, measly sliver of a carrot, maybe half an inch long. I would do this every day, until there were no carrots left! In as many summers as I had this garden I NEVER managed to get a carrot to reach full size.

I’m making up for this now.

I decided not to put a face on this one because it’s pretty beautiful as is. I hope you agree.

On another carrot-related note, Carotenoderma  is the name of the condition you have when you turn orange from eating too many of these pointy veggies. I kind of thought that was a myth, but it seems to be an actual thing. I wonder how many carrots you’d have to eat?

Here’s the deal:

Want to win this very awesome and never before seen plush? Well, it’s easy! I think up a haiku to accompany each piece I create. All you need to do is think up the haiku that best fits this new creature, and post it as a comment. You’ve got until next Sunday night, April 12th, 7 pm to get your entries in – when the winner will be randomly chosen and posted that very evening!

Before you break out in a nervous sweat – let me assure you that haiku writing is easy and fun! Just think up a quick 3 lines made up of 5, 7, and 5 syllables (in that order).

Here’s a quick example of one of mine from a previous post:

Rodamaur

A Predatorial Haiku:

My tummy rumbles.

You won’t hear me sneaking up

On my tippy toes.

See? It’s just that easy and fun! And the winner will win this very magical plush creature that they have so deftly haiku-ed. So get those haikus in – submit as many as you’d like! A mere three lines stand between you and a life-long plush companion, or a fantastic (and free) gift for someone you love. Tell your friends! Anyone can win! And stay tuned for more contests to come – I hold them on the 5th of every month!

Yay! Now get crackin’!
